Specific tasks include:

i. Complete any IRB related training as required by USN HRPO rules and regulations.

ii. ii. Participate in the sample collection from at least 160 human participants. Following voluntary informed consent, saliva will be collected and no more than 35 ml of blood will be drawn from all volunteers following common and standard procedures for venipuncture in serum separator tubes and sodium heparin tubes. Saliva samples will be self-collected by all participants using collection tubes containing a preservative to protect genetic material and proteins from degradation, either commercially available or VTM.

iii. Perform preliminarily processing of samples and store samples under conditions outlined in the IRB protocol and establish SOPs.

iv. For blood samples: Blood from the SST tube will be used to measure antibody titers and neutralization antibodies; blood from the heparin tubes will be used to prepare Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) for analysis. Participant serum will be separated after incubation at room temperature for 30 minutes by centrifugation onsite. PBMC will be separated from the blood sample by density gradient centrifugation using Ficoll-Paque and stored in appropriate media such as dry ice or liquid nitrogen. Results will be recorded on the appropriate form by designated study staff, and not provided to the participant, as any result would not be considered a clinical result.

v. For saliva samples: Participants will gently spit into this collection container, and the container will immediately be placed in an insulated container containing frozen gel packs.

vi. Support with samples storage and preparing samples for shipment to the laboratory in US. Saliva samples will be kept at -20⁰C prior to shipping to the laboratory on frozen gel packs. Serum will be stored in the refrigerator at -20°C until shipping.
