Position Overview:

We are seeking a passionate Punjabi Cook to join our charitable organization. As a Punjabi Cook, you will be responsible for preparing delicious and authentic Punjabi cuisine for our organizations various events and initiatives. This is full-time, permanent employment with a minimum of 30 hours a week and an hourly rate of NZ$29.70/hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Menu Planning: Collaborate with the organizations management team to create diverse and enticing Punjabi menus for different events, considering dietary restrictions and preferences.
  • Food Preparation: Prepare Vegetarian Punjabi dishes using traditional cooking techniques and authentic recipes. Ensure the use of fresh ingredients and maintain high standards of taste, quality, and presentation.
  • Cooking Expertise: Demonstrate a deep understanding of Punjabi cuisine, including the use of spices, herbs, and cooking methods unique to the region. Prepare a wide range of Punjabi dishes.
  • Kitchen Operations: Oversee the overall functioning of the kitchen, including ingredient procurement, inventory management, and equipment maintenance. Ensure a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
  • Cultural Representation: Represent Punjabi culture through the presentation and flavors of your dishes. Be knowledgeable about Punjabi culinary traditions and share insights with patrons when appropriate.
  • Event Support: Collaborate with event organizers to determine the quantity and type of dishes needed for each event. Ensure timely and efficient food preparation, considering the specific requirements and schedule of each occasion.
  • Training and Development: Stay updated with emerging trends and techniques in Punjabi cuisine. Train and mentor junior kitchen staff members, providing guidance and support to maintain consistency and quality.

Our ideal candidates will have.

  • Proven experience as a Punjabi Cook, preferably in a high-volume kitchen or catering environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Punjabi cuisine, spices, and traditional cooking techniques.
  • Proficiency in preparing a wide range of Punjabi dishes.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with team members and event organizers.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.
  • Appreciation and respect for the charitable organizations mission and values.
